David Mansell

David is an award-winning director, writer and producer with a career straddling theatre, film and television. Originally from Lichfield in Staffordshire, he began his career working with iconic film director Derek Jarman as a researcher on the movies Wittgenstein and Blue.

After leaving the Metropolitan Film School at Ealing Studios, David worked as a production assistant on the British Comedy feature French Film, starring Hugh Bonneville.

David worked his way up through the ranks: in script development on Series 4 of Doctor Who; script editing on popular TV continuing drama shows such as Casualty, Doctors and Coronation Street … before moving into script producing on the Irish drama series Red Rock for Element Pictures and TV3.

As a director, David has worked on Casualty, Doctors, and Red Rock. And, as a producer on the TV shows Casualty, EastEnders, Doctors, and Holby City.

From 2015 – 2018, David was a producer on the gritty, police drama series Red Rockduring which time the show won three IFTAs for Best Television Drama Series.

David has been working in script consultancy, helping writers to develop feature scripts, most notably the 2019 film No Fathers In Kashmir for Oscar nominated director Ashvin Kumar.

In 2021, David was recognised by the Writers Guild of Great Britain with the Olwen Wymark Award for his contribution to writing.

David has been making short films more recently, including the hard-hitting Warning Signs, featuring actors Shobu Kapoor, Guy Siner, Kim Hartman and Richard Gibson.
